Local Shoppers Brace for Potential Closures

Corporate Parent Announces Restructuring Plans

Your local Stop & Shop may be among the stores facing closure as the supermarket chain's Dutch-based parent company, Ahold Delhaize, announced plans to restructure its operations. The news comes after a recent investor meeting, where the company outlined its plans to close an undisclosed number of stores.

Stop & Shop currently operates 397 stores, with a significant presence in Massachusetts, where it has 125 locations. The company has yet to release a list of stores scheduled for closure, leaving shoppers and employees in limbo.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Stop & Shop emphasized its commitment to its customers and employees, stating that the supermarket chain "continues to hold a strong position in the markets we serve." However, the company acknowledged the need for "difficult decisions" to ensure its long-term success.

The news of potential closures follows the recent closing of Stop & Shop's Paramus location in New Jersey on January 13th. The company also plans to shutter its store in the Dayton section of South Brunswick.
